Campus Iftar at George Mason University: An Evening of Unity and Reflection

Updated: Mar 31

On March 22, 2025, the American Turkish Friendship Association (ATFA) had the privilege of hosting a meaningful Campus Iftar Dinner at George Mason University. The evening brought together nearly 100 attendees — including faculty, staff, professors, administrators, students, and the Dean of the Business School, in a heartfelt gathering focused on dialogue, diversity, and community.

The event created a warm and welcoming space where individuals from diverse backgrounds and faiths came together around the same table. In a time when division is all too common, this night stood as a powerful reminder of the strength found in shared experiences and mutual respect.

We were especially honored to welcome Dean Ajay Vinzé, Dean of the Business School at GMU, who delivered inspiring remarks. He graciously thanked ATFA for fostering connection and community on campus, emphasizing that "students are our strength — they are the future."

The evening was further enriched by the reflections of Professor Aft, a retired rabbi and social worker, whose presence brought a deeply personal and interfaith dimension to the evening.

Guests enjoyed a delicious spread of traditional Turkish cuisine, engaged in a lively Kahoot game, and participated in a short yet insightful presentation on the significance of Ramadan. Most importantly, the event was filled with authentic conversations and new friendships formed through shared understanding.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who joined and contributed to this memorable evening. Events like these reflect ATFA’s mission to build bridges, foster dialogue, and strengthen community through shared values and mutual respect.
